Voices In My Head
by John-Paul Flintoff

I drew these speech bubbles in psychiatric hospital. After several traumatic events, I'd lost confidence in the world, and in myself. My mind raced with negative thoughts, on a loop. My psychiatrist encouraged me to keep drawing, and I made hundreds of sketches, in hospital and afterwards. Since then I've stopped being 'just' a writer. I'm now also an illustrator and an artist. In lockdown, I've drawn more than 70 people's portraits on Zoom. Wordlessness can be so restful: if I ever start ruminating again, I'll recognise it sooner.

John-Paul Flintoff is the author of six books, published in 16 languages.

Self-Isolation by Helena Napier

Helena began this drawing in January 2020, put it to one side, and picked it up again during lockdown. It slowly emerged as a representation of self-isolation. The figures are separated by something invisible and there is a sadness to the image. But there is also comfort in it; to feel a part of you is temporarily missing means that there are things in your life that make you feel whole. When the lockdown ended, the space was filled by happy reunions with friends and family.

Helena is an artist and illustrator working both digitally and on paper.

Price: £12 (+ £3 P&P)
